This is a homebrew tool for Nintendo 64 that lets you copy game cartridges using a flash cart. You boot from the flash cart, hot-swap to another cartridge while the system is running, and the tool copies the game data and save files to your flash cart's memory card. It can also restore old saves or erase them. The project is inspired by similar homebrew tools and includes clear warnings about the risks of switching cartridges while the console is powered on.
How It Works
A friend tells you about a tool that can copy your N64 game cartridges using just a flash cart, so you can preserve your saves and ROMs.
You put your flash cart in the N64 and create folders on its memory card where your backups will be saved.
The screen shows simple options: copy your game's data, restore an old save, or erase a save you no longer need.
Copy the entire game to your memory card
Copy just your saved games
Put an old backup save back onto your cartridge
The screen tells you to switch to your regular cartridge, and later tells you to switch back to the flash cart so the data can be saved.
Small chunks of data appear on screen as each piece is copied over, with a percentage showing how much is done.
Everything is copied and ready. You can now power off knowing your game data is safely saved on your flash cart.
