PublicMinimalistic, lightweight markdown knowledge base app for macOS and Linux. Open source Obsidian alternative.
Tektite is a lightweight desktop app for macOS and Linux that turns any local folder into a personal Markdown knowledge base. You write notes in plain text, see a live preview, link notes together with special shortcuts, and watch a graph grow showing how your ideas connect. Tags are collected automatically, search finds anything instantly, and an optional Git sync keeps your vault backed up. Everything stays on your computer — no logins, no cloud, no tracking.
How It Works
You hear about Tektite from a friend — a simple app that keeps your notes on your own computer, with no logins or cloud accounts.
You download Tektite from GitHub or install it through Homebrew. Everything stays on your machine.
You pick any folder on your computer — that's your vault. All your notes live right there, as plain text files you actually own.
You create notes in Markdown and see a live preview as you type. Your thoughts appear exactly as you want them.
Tags like #projects or #ideas appear automatically, letting you click to filter your notes.
You search by filename, folder path, or even the words inside your notes.
If your vault is a Git folder, you push a button to pull, commit, and push your changes — simple version control.
You have a private, fast, offline knowledge base that works exactly how you want — no accounts, no tracking, just your notes.
