PublicOpenXiv is an AT Protocol preprint server with source-based submissions, public provenance, typed endorsements, OAI-PMH, and Bluesky federation.
OpenXiv is a preprint server that lets independent researchers publish papers without institutional backing. Built on the AT Protocol (Bluesky's technology), papers federate to the social network where they appear in custom feeds and can be discussed, endorsed, or reviewed by the community. Each paper gets a Trust Passport that transparently shows identity verification, citation checking, AI disclosure, and community signals. The service is open to anyone with an ORCID, Google, or Bluesky account, and exports metadata to library indexers like BASE and CORE via the OAI-PMH standard.
How It Works
A researcher browsing Bluesky stumbles upon a paper shared by OpenXiv in their feed, noticing the Trust Passport badge showing it's been verified.
The researcher creates an account using their existing ORCID or Google credentials — no special software or technical knowledge needed.
They drop their LaTeX paper into the wizard, write a plain-language summary for non-experts, and declare how AI helped with their work.
OpenXiv compiles their paper, assigns it a permanent ID, and bridges it to their personal data store where it lives forever.
A full transparency report shows their identity verified, citations checked, math audited, and any disputes or endorsements from the community.
The paper appears in six curated feeds, libraries index it automatically, and readers can follow them directly on Bluesky to see all future work.
