PublicPuTTY 0.83 fork with tabs, SFTP panel, session manager, and modern UX — free & open-source
PuttyAlt is an enhanced version of the classic PuTTY terminal program, designed for connecting to remote computers via SSH, Telnet, and serial connections. It adds over 100 quality-of-life features including tabbed sessions, multiple themes, built-in SFTP file transfer, session bookmarks, automatic reconnection, credential storage, and customizable keyboard shortcuts. The program runs as a portable Windows executable and is built on the well-established PuTTY 0.83 codebase under an MIT open-source license.
How It Works
You're a developer or system administrator who frequently connects to Linux servers, and you're tired of clunky terminal experiences.
A friend tells you about this enhanced terminal that has tabs, themes, and lots of quality-of-life features built right in.
You grab the portable executable, double-click it, and Windows shows a normal warning that you click through. The warm blue interface appears.
Instead of typing hostnames every time, you save your servers as bookmarks. Your frequently-used servers are always one click away.
Keep several server connections open at once, switching between them easily
Drag and drop files between your computer and servers
Set up encrypted pathways for your applications
You pick a color scheme that feels good, adjust fonts, and set up keyboard shortcuts that speed up your workflow.
Your connections reconnect automatically if they drop, your credentials are stored safely, and your terminal looks great while doing it.
