AOHP (Android Open Harness Project) is a research project from Tsinghua University that reimagines Android as a system designed for AI assistants to operate on your behalf. Currently in development, it aims to let your AI helper call services across different apps, work in the background without needing your screen, and handle tasks like shopping comparisons or multi-step workflows much more efficiently than current assistants. The project also includes privacy protections that keep sensitive information like payment details safe from your AI unless you explicitly approve access. The source code has not yet been released, but the project is properly documented and licensed under Apache 2.0.
How It Works
You hear about AOHP—a version of Android designed so your AI assistant can actually use your phone the way you do.
Instead of your assistant clicking through apps like a human, it can call services directly and work in the background.
Your AI helper can now understand what you want, combine powers from different apps, and get things done much faster.
Sensitive information like payment details stay protected—even from your assistant—unless you explicitly allow it.
The project is being built by researchers at Tsinghua University and isn't ready yet, but you can watch for updates.
When ready, your AI can handle complex tasks on your phone quickly and safely, without you having to guide it step by step.
