PublicA silly little app that tracks flights that enter a defined airspace and provides useful information about them
FlightTrackr is a hobbyist Raspberry Pi application that polls public flight data to detect and alert on nearby aircraft via audio and an optional OLED display.
How It Works
You find this fun project that lets you track airplanes flying near your home with alerts and a little screen.
Pick up a small computer like a Raspberry Pi, a tiny screen, a speaker, and some wires—just like building a model kit.
Put the basic operating system on the small computer and get it connected to your home Wi-Fi.
Tell the program where you live by entering your location and linking free services that share flight info.
Gently wire the screen and speaker to the computer using the easy pictures in the guide.
Start the program, and it begins quietly watching the skies around you.
A friendly chime plays and the screen shows details like the plane's name and path when one flies nearby—exciting!
It runs automatically, giving you chimes and screen updates for new flights, even starting itself when powered on.
